The sun does not shine there, nor do the moon and the stars.
All the lights of the world cannot be compared even to a ray of the inner light of the self.
As the mirth and joys of the festive spirit engulf us, we must not forget what we owe to the environment and all those that are a part thereof.
This year, with an aim to add novelty and to bring about awareness in our children, the Special Assembly on Deepawali was based on ‘Avoid Firecrackers and help Child workers’.
To begin, the Principal, Mrs Jyoti Nagranee lighted the first ‘Diya’ of Deepawali in 2017, to mark the progress from ignorance to knowledge.
Students of Grades VI and VII put up a short street play emphasizing the need to avoid crackers during festivals and celebrate them the cleaner and healthier way. There was a very moving video on the plights of the children working in fireworks factories. There was stunned silence as our students watched it, their eyes glued to the screen. Ma’am Geetanjali Sharma familiarized everyone with the need to say ‘No’ to crackers. She added that real joy lies not in the bursting of crackers but in being with our families and helping the poor and the needy. And that, exactly is the true spirit of the festival.
Mrs. Nagranee, in her address, added that all those poor and helpless children who risk their lives by working in all the fireworks industries call for our concern. Let’s not add to their woes. She hoped that our students would set an example before everyone by saying a big NO to crackers this Diwali.
