Let’s not take our independence for granted…
Let’s do our bit to make India a better a place…
Legacy to live for and legacy to die for.
A day that stirs the hearts of all Indians, reminding them of the struggles and hardships of those brave souls who laid down their lives so that we could breathe in free air, India celebrates its 71st Independence Day.
A colourful cultural programme was organized at Delhi Public World School to mark this Red-letter Day. Maj. Gen. Manmohan Singh, PVSM AVSM, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Brig. Jaspal Singh Pama, Sena Medal, was among the other dignitaries present.
The day began with the flag-hoisting by the Chief Guest followed by a tuneful rendition of the National Anthem.
The spirit of patriotism was in the air as the morning unfolded the hues of the Tricolor. There was a sterling cultural show wherein students put up foot-tapping dances, exhibiting their patriotic fervor. The show-stopper was a mime, as a tribute to the Indian soldier. It traced the journey of a young soldier from his childhood through his training till the time he lays down his life in the service of his motherland. It ended with a heart wrenching poem “We both left home at 18..” by Gurkeerat Kaur, that touched an emotional chord in everyone who witnessed it. Another poignant soul- stirring poem, ‘My Daddy is a Soldier’, by Yashasvi Deshwal, held everyone spellbound as a child’s heart cried out for her beloved father who has left them all to serve his nation.
In his address to the students, the Chief Guest encouraged all of them to do their bit to serve the nation by helping to conserve the environment. He congratulated all of them for putting up a grand show.
The Principal, Mrs. Jyoti Nagranee, spoke of the glory of her motherland and illuminated the students about the sacrifices made by the masses in gaining this independence. She held that it is the moral duty of every citizen of this country to value and respect those sacrifices.
The day ended with the distribution of ice creams amongst all the students.
Long live our independence!!
