A visit to the Institute for the Blind

Our participation in the various research-based projects conducted by autonomous bodies like NCSC (National Children’s Science Congress), NCERT and TERI (The Energy and Resource Institute) takes flight this year. All these projects are aimed at exploring and reinforcing the scientific temperament of the students across the nation.

As part of a project based on ‘Infrastructural modifications for the disabled’ by NCSC, a group of five students, accompanied by two teachers, visited the Institute for the Blind in Chandigarh.

The group explored and studied the area and spoke to the people there about how the infrastructure has been modified to suit the needs of the visually impaired to make their lives easier. They learnt how Braille has been used not just to read and write but also for recreational purposes. The group was shown the various learning aids that are used like tactile maps, brailler and daisy player.

It was a great learning experience for everyone.
